Legend has it that the early years of Nuno Cabral (@nunocabralmusic) were spent “sitting in front of the record player listening to the most varied albums with headphones, completely alienating himself from what was happening around him”. His adolescence and youth were spent with “guitar on his back”, “always among friends and never to the point of venturing into playing live”.
Thus, it was only at the age of 27 that the Azorean musician stepped on stage for the first time. “Long years of playing live with projects exclusively dedicated to covers” followed. In 2014, the artist decided to move away from versions and invest in original works.
It all started with “Hey Mister” and “Last Goodbye”, compositions presented live at the first edition of the Jardim Sagres Fest Festival, in 2015. This year, he has in store for us the release of his first EP.
Nuno Cabral states that his compositions always reveal “very varied environments and states of mind and the choice of themes (for the EP) followed this premise”.
“The second single "This Love" is calmer, compared to "Rush", more emotional and introspective. The 3rd single "Bittersweet Track", although not explicit about what I write about, is a happier and, above all, liberating theme! The latest single "Last Memory" is a very simple and emotional ballad, with just voice, piano and a string section”, he explained.
Now, with the first song presented, “Rush”, we can also become alienated from what is happening around us. Just out of curiosity, the single cover starred Catarina Limão (@limaohandmade).
Regarding the song “Rush”, the artist recognizes that the song was composed pre-pandemic. However, he reveals that the lyrics have gained even more meaning in the last year. “It was a very challenging year, we continued to live in very difficult times and I found myself thinking that I should follow more of what I wrote in these lyrics. We are all looking forward to better days, but we need to continue thinking about the common good of everyone and wait patiently for that better future. And in that sense, "Stop, relax and breathe deeply"”!
